 New flash Walkman, ranging from 256 MB to 1 GB, have been announced by Sony.
Directly addressing iPod shuffle and the rest of Flash MP3 Players, Sony claims its model sport FM radio and a OLED (organic electroluminescent) display that iPod shuffle is missing.
The model range:
- the sporty 256 MB entry-level model, or NW-E100, available in six colors, no display, up to 70 hours of playback time using Sony's proprietary Stamina technology and running on 1 AA battery,
- the mid-range NW-E400, 512 MB, 4 colors, OLED display and FM radio, rechargeable lithium-ion battery with 50 hours of playback time,
- the high level NW-E500, 1 GB, more metallic colors and the highest capacity.

According to Sony, the quick charge function of the E400 allows for only 3 minutes of charging to give 3 hours of playback time.
The top of the line E500 models are almost identical to the E400 series, except with the addition of an FM tuner, and more metallic colors.
Prices: US$ 130 for the 256 MB, the 1 GB will sell for US$ 320.
